Cadaver Course: Clues to Orofacial Pain and Sleep Medicine

Instructor: Dr. Brijesh Chandwani, BDS, DMD

Dr. Brijesh Chandwani is a board-certified specialist in Orofacial Pain with an emphasis on managing complex facial pain disorders in New York and Connecticut. Holding academic positions as Adjunct Clinical Associate at the Craniofacial Pain Center, Department of Diagnostic Sciences at Tufts University, Boston, and at the St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, he has a vast educational and professional background.Completing his dental training (DMD) at Tufts University, Boston, he also undertook post-graduate fellowship training in Temporomandibular Disorders and Sleep Apnea. Further honing his skills, he completed Acupuncture training from Harvard Medical School, Boston. As an author of several publications, he's also presented at national conferences on topics such as Headaches and Bruxism.Dr. Chandwani employs a diverse range of techniques in his treatments, including acupuncture, trigger point needling, and stretching. These are complemented with oral appliances, injections, and pharmacotherapy. He played an instrumental role in the Academy of Orofacial Pain as the Co-Chair of the 44th Annual Scientific Meeting in 2020.

Course Details

The course integrates a hands-on approach to understanding the anatomy pertinent to Orofacial Pain. The anatomy faculty will perform dissections with the aim of demonstrating various structures, all in the lens of practical application for diagnosis and treatment.

Key areas of focus include: headaches, sleep apnea, trigeminal neuralgia, muscle pain, occipital pain, physical examinations, treatment techniques like nerve blocks, trigger point injections, chemodenervation, and understanding potential side effects of injection therapy.

Learning Objectives

Understand the complexities of structures of TMJ, masticatory and facial muscles, nerves, and other crucial components.
Apply the acquired knowledge towards the diagnosis and treatment of Orofacial pain and sleep apnea.
