Dr. Mark Lerman, D.M.D.

A “Double-Jumbo” alumnus from Tufts with a B.A. in History and D.M.D., Dr. Mark Lerman currently holds the position of full-time Professor and Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at TUSDM. He extended his academic pursuits with a general practice residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and oral and maxillofacial pathology training at New York Presbyterian Queens. Being a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, he also is a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP). Dr. Lerman has previously served as a commissioner with the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and presently sits on the AAOMP Executive Council. His professional dedication at TUSDM is divided among teaching, clinical practice, and diagnostic histopathology at Tufts Oral Pathology Services.

Dr. Aruna Ramesh, BDS, MS, DMD

Serving as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at TUSDM since February 2020, Dr. Aruna Ramesh has had an illustrious journey in the world of dentistry. Before this role, she chaired the Department of Diagnostic Sciences from 2015 to 2020 and led the division for oral and maxillofacial radiology from 2003 to 2015. A member of the TUSDM faculty since 2001, she acquired her M.S. in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a D.M.D. from TUSDM. Being a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, she also practices OMFR part-time. Her vast roles include administrative tasks, teaching, and engaging in scholarly activities.

Course Overview

Identifying benign pathology from clinically significant diseases can be a complex task for even experienced clinicians. This course aids professionals in pinpointing mucosal diseases and radiographic pathologies that might deviate from textbook presentations.

With a full-day immersion, the course emphasizes hands-on experience to help attendees feel confident in conducting uncomplicated soft-tissue biopsies under local anesthesia. This unique experience is achieved through instruction on synthetic mucosa.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their WiFi-enabled devices like smartphones, laptops, or tablets for engaging in differential diagnosis exercises.
